Skye, Aidan, and Jemma returned to their hotel room, disheartened by their encounter with Henry Oldham.

“What a jerk,” Jemma grumbled.

“I should have hit him,” Aidan added.

“No, you shouldn’t have,” Skye scolded.

Jemma nodded. “That’s right. I should have hit him. Maybe he wouldn’t have hit me back.”

“Don’t kid yourself,” Skye scoffed. “I don’t think he cares one way or the other if you’re a man, woman or child.”

The trio went inside the modest, but comfortable room and peeled off their coats. Jemma growled. “I say he’s lying. I think Kyle is still here.”

“There’s a way to find out,” Aidan said, pulling out his phone. “Let’s see if he’s booked any international flights in the past couple of days. I’ll text Julie.”

Skye was tempted to stretch out on the couch and rest her eyes, but she was afraid she might fall asleep. So, instead, she stood up, arching her back like a cat. “Why don’t we lay everything out so we can see if we’re missing anything.” She walked over and fished out some post-it notes from her bag. “Jemma, can you go down to the front desk and see if they have any two-sided tape?”

“On it,” she said as she headed toward the door. “Don’t solve anything without me.”

“No worries on that count,” Skye chuckled.

On the first post-it note, she began to jot down some quick facts. She started with Victoria’s name and age. Beneath, she listed a few other details, like wealthy widow of Tipton Todd, no money troubles, somehow linked to Alexander Wells.

When she was done, she placed the post-it in the middle of a large picture of a barn that was hanging on her wall. Then she started on the next one. She was drafting a note for Fingers Ricci when Jemma returned with the tape.

“Oh! I see what you’re doing now,” Jemma said excitedly. “Let me help you.”

Aidan sat on the sofa and watched as the two designed and created a thorough investigation board that laid out all the players in Victoria’s murder case. “Don’t forget to put the gold mine on there where we believe the cyanide came from,” he reminded them. “And while we’re on that subject, I was thinking. I found some research online that suggests that there are measures in place to ensure the safe and responsible use of cyanide in order to protect human health and the environment.”

“Well, I’d hope so,” Skye said. “We can’t have people running around with cyanide in a saltshaker.

Nodding, Aidan stood and began to pace. “Well, that’s why we have the Cyanide Code. It requires that companies document the quantities of cyanide used, the methods of storage, and the procedures around handling and disposing of it. So, basically, there should be a record of how much cyanide Ricci’s company has purchased and how every ounce of it was used. Can’t we have Detective Harper get a warrant for Ricci’s documentation?”

“I like that!” Skye said, pointing at Aidan. “And if he doesn’t have record, he’s in blatant violation of the law.
